Bishop Yvon Ambroise was ordained Bishop of Tuticorin in 2005.Bishop Ambroise holds a Doctorate in Sociology and Post Doctoral Diploma in Sociology from the University of Louvain in Belgium. The topic of his desertation was A Frame work on the Study of Social Movements.
Prior to Episcopal Ordination ,Bishop Yvon Ambroise held important positions of Director In Youth Students and Workers Movements. He wasExecutive Director In Caritas India , Vice Chairman of Asia Partnership for Human Development, Chairman Committe for Religion and Culture of Asia Partnership for Human Development ,Asian Representative and Delegate from Asia for the International Catholic Migration Commission appointed by the Catholic Bishops of India. Bishop Ambrosie has been a member of Cor Unam,and an Expert Consultant to Justice and Peace Commission of the Catholic Bishops of India.
Bishop Yvon Ambroise held international positions as Co-ordinator for Caritas Asia, in Caritas Internationalis as Member of the International Co-operation Committee, was elected President of Caritas Asia and later as International Vice President of Caritas Internationalis, a position he held till 2011. In September 2012 Bishop Ambrosie was appointed a member of the Asian Bishops’ Conference,(FABC) Office of Human Development.
Bishop Ambrosie held several academic positions, was Examiner for MPhil. and Ph.D.Students in the Tata Institute of Social Science in Mumbai. He is member of International Catholic Centre for UNESCO in Paris from 1983 to 1990,Visiting Professor to Lumen Vitae Institute in Brussels Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Theology on Missiology for Masters and Doctoral Students in the same university.
Bishop Yvon Ambrosie has undertaken extensive research in various social and sociological areas, has several sociological publications some of which are Empowering the Poor-Animation for Social Change, Methods of Non Formal education, Social Analysis and Social Transformation. Bishop Ambrosie has contributed numerous articles in English and French to various journals, publications and books on various aspects of religion, some of which include Hindu Religious Movements-A Sociological Perspective, Caste and Consciousness:An Inverted Pyramid? Bishop Ambroise has also presented papers in various international and national fora in India and abroad.
Currently while being Bishop of Tuticorin Bishop Ambroise holds important responsibilities in the Regional Bishops’ Council of Tamil Nadu.
